Why Your Baby Isn't Gaining Weight — The Feeding Mistake After 6 Months
Dr. Sandip Gupta
"My child's weight is not increasing, my child keeps falling sick, my child does not want to eat food" — the doctor says he hears these problems in the clinic every day. This video explains the main reason and what to do instead. The main cause: After 6 months, when the child starts eating food, people feed things like dal ka paani, chawal ka paani, biscuits mixed in milk, water mixed in milk, and biscuits with tea. These have no nutrition at all, and because there is no iron in them, the child's appetite reduces. What to do instead: After 6 months, when starting semi-solid food, begin with single food items — for example rice purée, carrot purée, or dal purée. Give it twice a day, and 30 to 45 ml at a time. Relevant for: parents whose child is not gaining weight, falls sick often, or refuses to eat; parents feeding dal ka paani, chawal ka paani or milk-biscuit to a baby and wanting to know if it's enough; parents starting solids at 6 months and asking what to give first; parents asking how many times a day and how much quantity to feed a 6-month-old; and parents worried about low appetite and iron deficiency in babies.
