Which Cow Milk Is Best for a Child's Growth? Full Cream vs Toned vs Double Toned
Dr. Sandip Gupta
Many mothers ask: once the child is old enough for cow's milk, which type of cow milk should be given for good growth? This video answers that question. Points covered in the video: Full cream milk is better – full cream milk, in which the fat is not removed, is better for children. Why – it is calorie dense and contains fats that help a lot in the child's growth. At a young age children's growth speed is very high, so they need calorie-dense fat, for which whole milk is ideal. Nutrients in whole milk – whole milk contains calcium, phosphorus, Vitamin A, Vitamin B, B1 and B2 — all of which are very important for the child's immunity and bone growth. Toned milk – toned milk is given to children who are above 2 years of age and whose weight is already high, because they do not need the extra fat. Never give skimmed / double toned milk – always keep in mind that double toned milk should never be given to children. It gives no benefit and has no nutrition that helps in the child's growth. Relevant for: parents choosing which milk to give their child after starting cow's milk; parents asking whether full cream, whole milk, toned milk or double toned milk is right for kids; parents concerned about their child's growth, weight gain, bone growth or immunity; and parents of children above 2 years whose weight is on the higher side and who are wondering about switching to toned milk.
