Sweet Potato Purée for Constipation in Babies — Recipe and Benefits
Dr. Sandip Gupta
This video answers which vegetable to feed small children when they have constipation — sweet potato (shakarkand) is quite beneficial, and can be given to children as a purée. How to make it: Take the sweet potato and peel it. Cut it into small pieces, then steam it, or you can boil it. Once it becomes soft after boiling, mix it with water and blend it well. After blending, you can feed it to the child. Why it works: Sweet potato has a fairly high fibre content and contains carbohydrate, so it digests easily. It also contains zinc and potassium, which are good for children's immunity. If you feed it to the child in good quantity, you will see the child's constipation gradually improve. Relevant for: parents whose baby or small child has constipation and who want a vegetable that helps; parents starting solids and looking for easy purée recipes; parents asking how to steam, boil and blend sweet potato for a baby; parents looking for fibre-rich foods for infants; and parents wanting foods that support immunity along with digestion.
