How to Make Rice Purée for Babies — A Recommended First Food at 6 Months
Dr. Sandip Gupta
This video shows how to make rice purée for a baby. How to make it: Take a small quantity of rice and wash it well. After washing, blend the rice in a mixer with water. Then strain it. Whatever particles are still large, add a little more water and blend once more in the mixer. Cook this rice powder with water in a pan on a low flame. Once cooked and fully combined with the water, it forms a sticky mixture — this can then be given to the child. Why rice purée: Rice is a good source of carbohydrate and is rich in calories. Its taste is very mild so the baby takes it easily, and it does not cause any allergy. Rice purée is one of the best first foods for children. When to start: The doctor recommends that once the baby has completed a full six months, i.e. is 180 days old, you can give rice purée as a first food. Relevant for: parents starting solids at 6 months and choosing a first food; parents asking how to make rice purée or rice powder for a baby at home; parents worried about allergies when starting solids; parents looking for a mild-tasting, calorie-rich food a baby will accept; and parents asking about the right consistency for a baby's first purée.
