Child Refusing ORS During Loose Motions? 3 Homemade Alternatives

Dr. Sandip Gupta

When we give ORS to children during loose motions, children often do not like its taste and reject it. This video covers homemade alternatives that can be used at such times. Three alternatives covered in the video: Coconut water – if you add a little salt to it, it works as an additional solution. Buttermilk (chaach) – this works as a probiotic and helps in recovery. Dal water or rice water – giving this to the child provides energy quickly. Using all these things, the child's dehydration can be prevented. Relevant for: parents whose child has loose motions or diarrhoea and refuses to drink ORS; parents asking what can be given instead of ORS at home; parents asking whether coconut water, buttermilk, dal water or rice water help during loose motions; parents wanting to prevent dehydration in a child; and parents looking for probiotic and energy-giving fluids during diarrhoea.
