Can You Give Curd to a 6–12 Month Old Baby? Benefits and the Right Way
Dr. Sandip Gupta
Many mothers asked in the comments whether curd (dahi) can be given to a 6 to 12 month old baby. This video answers that. When to start: Yes — you can start curd for children after 6 months are completed. Benefits: Giving curd improves the child's immunity and helps in digestion, and the child gets less cold and cough. If the child has loose motions, do give curd, because it contains good bacteria and the child gets relief. It also gives relief during teething. Which curd: Give curd made from full cream milk, because it has good fat which helps in the child's weight gain. Important precaution: If you are giving curd to a child under 1 year, do not mix salt, sugar, jaggery or honey in it. If you mash mango or banana pulp into it, the child gets very good nutrition and it helps in the child's weight gain. Relevant for: parents starting solids and asking at what age curd can be introduced; parents whose baby has loose motions and who want to know if curd helps; parents looking for immunity and digestion foods for infants; parents whose baby is teething; parents asking whether salt, sugar, jaggery or honey can be added to a baby's food under 1 year; and parents looking for healthy weight gain foods for babies.
