4 Medicines Every Home With a Baby Under 6 Months Should Keep

Dr. Sandip Gupta

If you have a child under 6 months at home, this video lists four medicines it is necessary to keep at home. 1. Gastrica or Colicaid drops – gives relief in colic pain and gas problems in babies. For children under 6 months, five drops can be given when the baby is crying with colic pain. 2. Nasoclear drops (saline nasal drops) – small babies breathe only through the nose, so when the nose gets blocked they are unable to drink milk. This is a saline nasal drop made only of salt and water, with no medicine in it. Two drops can be put in each nostril, and it can be used comfortably four to six times a day with no side effects. 3. Calpol – a fever medicine. Calpol drops are available for children; the dose is written on the back, weight-wise for children, and can be given accordingly. 4. Vicks Baby Rub – for a child's cold or blocked nose. For children above nine months it can be applied on the chest or throat, which gives relief in their cold. Relevant for: parents of newborns and babies under 6 months building a home medicine kit; parents whose baby has colic pain, gas, blocked nose, fever or cold; parents asking whether saline nasal drops are safe and how often they can be used; parents asking how the dose of fever medicine is decided for a baby; and parents asking from what age and where on the body baby rub can be applied.
