3 Things to Keep in Mind While Nebulizing Your Child

Dr. Sandip Gupta

If you nebulize your child, this video explains 3 things you must keep in mind. Points covered in the video: Position – do not nebulize the child lying down or while asleep. While nebulizing, keep the child in a slightly inclined position at 45° or seated. Only then does the medicine reach the child properly. What to put in the nebulizer – never nebulize the child with filtered water or tap water. For nebulization, always use hypertonic saline, normal saline, or the medicine prescribed by the doctor. Cleaning afterwards – after nebulizing, clean the mask and chamber with running tap water and then air dry them. Relevant for: parents who nebulize their child at home; parents asking about the correct position for nebulization in babies and children; parents wondering whether plain water, tap water or filtered water can be used in a nebulizer; parents asking what saline or medicine goes into the nebulizer; and parents wanting to know how to clean and dry the nebulizer mask and chamber after use.
